Llançà and around
Llançà is a village in the Alt Empordà with about 7 km of coastline and around twenty beaches and coves. It sits between two protected areas, Cap de Creus Natural Park and the Albera natural area, a few kilometres from France.
The village
Llançà has two parts. The vila is the old town, where the hostal is: Plaça Major, the church of Sant Vicenç with its 18th-century Baroque façade, and the Romanesque tower (13th–14th century), part of the old town walls.
The port is the fishermen’s quarter, just over a kilometre away: fishing and leisure harbour, seafront promenade and terraces facing the sea. The Casa de Cultura, five minutes' walk from the hostal, houses the Watercolour Museum (Museu de l’Aquarel·la – Fundació J. Martínez Lozano).
Beaches and coves
Platja del Port
The town beach, next to the harbour. Coarse sand, lifeguard and facilities in season, accessible, with free parking nearby.
Platja de la Farella
Very close to the harbour, with a handrail into the water, showers and toilets.
Platja de Grifeu
About 2 km north. Fine sand, lifeguard in summer, accessible beach and a large free car park. A favourite for families.
Cau del Llop
A cove in a natural setting, a kilometre from the centre, with a beach bar and showers.
Cala Bramant
Small and rocky, great for snorkelling. Reached on foot along the coastal path.
Platja de Sant Jordi
Llançà’s dog beach, handy if you’re travelling with your pet.
Where to eat
The hostal only serves breakfast, so you’ll eat out for lunch and dinner, which is easy in Llançà: there are restaurants and bars in the old town, a few steps away, and at the harbour, with terraces facing the sea.
Llançà has always been a fishing village, and fish of the day and rice dishes are the local classics. In summer it’s worth booking a table.
Walks and nature
The Camí de Ronda coastal path runs between cliffs and hidden coves. There are also mountain-bike routes, snorkelling trails and footpaths into the Albera hills and Cap de Creus.
